ATAR Changes: Removal of the 10% Bonus from 2026

The Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC) has announced that from 2026 WA students will no longer be eligible to receive a 10% bonus.

What’s Changing?

Currently, students who undertake certain ATAR courses receive a 10% bonus on their scores. These courses include Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist, and a student’s highest scored Language Other Than English (LOTE). This system allows students studying these subjects to achieve a maximum TEA of 430, compared to a maximum of 400 for students not studying these subjects.

From 2026, this 10% bonus will no longer apply. The change means that all subjects will be treated equally, and the highest possible TEA will be standardised to 400 for all students.

Why This Change?

Western Australia is the only Australian state that offers a bonus for ATAR course scaled scores. The decision to remove the bonus was made to align with other states and to ensure all students have equal opportunities, regardless of the ATAR courses available at their school.

Who Will Be Affected?

The change will be implemented for students who will be in Year 12 in 2026, allowing current Year 10 students to plan their course selections knowing the new system. Importantly, current Year 11 and 12 students will not be affected by this update.

Before joining Peak, my son was struggling with his year 11 Physics ATAR.After he scored 44% on his first test we decided to give Peak a try.We had a long interview with Tristan where he explained how the curriculum worked and explained what was required to improve.I was impressed by his knowledge of the school system and especially by his insight into exam preparation.Long story short, we signed up late February 2024, and now my son just achieved 81% in his first exam (June 2024).That’s a huge improvement, thanks to Tristan and the teachers at Peak.Highly recommend!!!

Do not look elsewhere if you have a teenager who is shaken by the rapidly increasing academic pressures in year 11... when the usual A's and B's suddenly turn into a super-disorientating tumble of C's and D's (or F's!). Best to enrol early, if you can, do not wait for year 11. Our son had a pretty brutal experience during early year 11, with a real crisis of confidence as a result. We found out about Peak and then met with Tristan who showed incredible insight and sensitivity about what was happening in our teenager's world. Together with our son, Tristan produced a customised study plan to tackle the situation, and it worked. Our son enrolled through the year 11 and we cannot thank Peak enough for the most amazing teaching and support provided. The grades improved significantly, which was wonderful. However, we learned that, by far, the most important outcome was that our son's confidence grew, as well as the understanding that he was far more in control of his academic future from what he had previously believed. Five stars is not enough. We informed colleagues at work and friends with teens, as we would hate their kids to miss out.

Tristan really believed in me since I started Peak around half way through Term 1 in year 11, 2021. I particularly love how each session is 3 hours so that it enables sufficient time to get through significant amounts of content in comparison to many popular tutoring courses that are only an hour long. The location is also very central where public transport is so accessible.

Peak education has had a massive impact on my grade since year 11 to 12 of my specialist course. They staff are excellent at teaching and are also good people to chat with too. It's a great learning environment with other peak students on the large sessions, while also having the one on one sessions to help improve specific areas that you need help with. Their exam prep and recourses are insanely helpful too. I could not say any other tutoring service goes to this extent in helping and ensuring you achieve the grade you want in the subjects they provide.

Classes here are thoroughly enjoyable. Lessons are interesting, and I find easy to concentrate throughout the whole lesson and complete the work, especially compared to studying or at school sometimes.A good assortment of practice questions and content on Maths Methods and Chemistry topics are given each week, and you can ask the teachers if you have any queries about the subject(s).Good for exam study as there are plenty of practice questions to complete. Very much recommend.

Peak has really helped me with physics this year! I really love the complementary workshops and practice tests/exams we can request. The booklets that are provided, I found, have definitely helped me consolidate my learning. I’ve also found myself using them for revision and as notes for tests as they provide a really good summary of the topics. The teachers are all very relatable and well versed in the Scasa curriculum as well as always being very friendly and easy to talk to. They also teach in a way that is easy to understand. I truly believe that Peak has been one of the reasons I can confidently say I passed physics this year! Definitely recommend it! :)

Peak Education is a tutoring service that provides term courses, holiday courses and exam prep courses. During year 11 and 12 I took the maths methods term course and couldn't recommend it more. The course provides high quality theory books, work booklets, revision booklets and test preparation kits to ensure you are prepared for the topics. The resources and service are amazing. Tristan and his team are very helpful and are always willing to help you with any questions you have. I can't recommend the course enough.

It’s revision classes, practice exams with guided solutions, one on one assistance and mentor ship.Over my 2 years of study with them I took the methods years 11 & 12 classes and the physics 12 class.
